Elgeyo Marakwet County is in the Rift Valley Province of Kenya. The county is also known by the name Marakwet and the dominant community is of the Marakwet tribe. The tribe is of the Kalenjin people and practice small-scale crop farming and livestock rearing including daily farming. Marakwet County is bordered to the East by Kerio River at 1000 m above sea level, to the west there is the Cherang’any Hills and Marakwet Escarpment which rise above 3300 m above sea level.
It borders the following Counties: West Pokot to the North, Baringo to the East, South East and South, Uasin Gishu to the South West and West, and Trans Nzoia to the North West.
Marakwet County is home of some of the great long distance runners in Kenya; some of them are Moses Kiptanui, Evans Ruto, Ruben Kosgei, Ezekiel Kemboi and Richard Chelimo.
